While we, the North American manufacturers of Carrooka, are from Southern Ontario, the game did not originate in the Canada area. For those who have discovered the game through us, we wanted to share the origins of the game, so that every person who has a Carrooka Board in their house can appreciate the legacy of this game!
The Furnivals
If you're looking for a name to thank for creating this game, here it is: Jack & George Furnival. Based out of Staffordshire in the United Kingdom, Jack was inspired to invent carrooka while looking for alternatives to getting a snooker table.
As it turns out, like most people, fitting a full Snooker / Pool table into your living space isn't realistic. While looking for a different but similar game to get - that's when Jack came across Carrom, a tabletop game originating from India.
Jack put two and two together using his 30+ years of experience woodworking, taking the Carrom-style board and matching it with the rules of snooker, to create his brand new game - Carrooka. From there, partnered with the business savvy smarts of George, the Furnivals started their launch of the game in the UK, and then worldwide.
This is a condensed version of the story, and we highly recommend you learn more on their website - You can read more about their history on the Carrooka UK website!
Where do We Fit In?
In the past two years, in an effort to expand the reach of Carrooka to a large audience, the Furnivals reached out to manufacturers across the globe to help expand the game. That included us, experienced in building board games through our work with Tracey Crokinole Boards.
For the last year and a bit, we've been working to carry on the hard work that the Furnivals have done to spread this game across the globe! If you haven't already gotten into the Carrooka world, you can buy a board from us here.
As always, happy flicking!
